ChatGPT is not Reddit
Klaas from PromptWatch noticed that Reddit citations have been almost completely removed from ChatGPT’s responses over the past few days. The timing lines up with Reddit enforcing sign-in walls on Old Reddit — but more likely, it’s OpenAI pruning its source mix after the query fanout changes. Either way, it’s a reminder that Reddit’s data leverage isn’t as tight as they might think: the training data is already baked in, and citations are a nice-to-have, not a dependency.
